Mike Beck is internationally known; doing clinics and concerts in the United States and Norway, Sweden, Finland, and England. Mike has a confident and patient approach that teaches a lifetime of horsemanship skills. Riders of all levels can benefit from Mike's expertise.

Mike Beck grew up outside Monterey California. He got his first horse at nine years of age and rode the ranch country outside his home, but it wasn’t until meeting Roy Forzoni that he started to take a serious look at the horse." I was about 17 years old when I went to work for Roy and his wife André. Roy started colts and showed working cow horses at his Hidden Hills Stables in Carmel Valley. They had some hunter jumpers there too and that’s where I met Tom Dorrance." Tom worked closely with Roy, spending about 6 years there helping him.

Mike’s interest in the horse took off and that led him to meeting Bryan Neubert and going to the two million acre Spanish Ranch in Nevada to be a cowboy." The horses there were hardly rode much and pretty wild. It was common to see 2 or 3 horses buck every morning. Bryan Helped me so much there. They ran a spring wagon to get everything branded. We had a lot of fun there."

Bill Dorrance invited Mike to come live with him at his Mt. Toro Ranch in 1977." Bill’s boys were in college and farming so he asked me to help him on the ranch in exchange for helping me with the horses and cattle. The experience was priceless and Bill and I remained close friends until his passing in July 1999.

I always could drop by and spend time with him. He helped me get a horse ready to show, helped me with my roping, whatever. Bill was the greatest teacher I’ve ever been around and his generosity in sharing his time and knowledge was never ending true gentleman."

Mike has worked with Joe Wolters and continued to seek his help whenever he gets a chance. " Me and Joe and Bryan and Billy Askew worked a steer outfit out of Deeth Nevada. We had 10,000 steers to look after and the crew was all cowboys interested in bettering our horsemanship."

At the Madison River Cattle Co. in Three Forks Mt., Mike started colts for 2 years. "The ranch manager there was very high on Ray Hunt and hired me because I’d worked with Bill Dorrance. He used to send me and Buck Brannaman, who also worked there, to Ray’s clinics in Montana with company horses to start. It was great!"

Mike Beck now makes his home back in California where he grew up, living on MT. Toro outside Salinas on The Dorrance Ranch. He travels all over the U.S. and Europe , playing his music and doing Horsemanship Clinics. If you are interested in having him come to your town to do a concert or clinic, contact Mike at mikebeck@mikebeck.com or call 1-831-484-2810.
